About

Tucked along the southern shores of Lesvos near the charming town of Plomari, Seven Seas Taverna offers the kind of unpretentious, heartfelt dining experience that defines the best of Greek island hospitality. Plomari itself is celebrated as the ouzo capital of Greece, home to generations of master distillers, and the taverna sits comfortably within this tradition of conviviality and good living. The name conjures the wide Aegean horizon that stretches out before the town, and the spirit of the place reflects that same openness and abundance.

Visitors can expect a menu rooted in the freshest local catch, alongside classic Greek taverna staples that have satisfied hungry travelers and locals alike for decades. Grilled fish pulled from nearby waters, mezedes meant for sharing, and the inevitable carafe of local wine or a glass of Plomari's famous ouzo make for a meal that feels both simple and deeply satisfying. The atmosphere leans relaxed and convivial, the kind of place where a lunch stretches pleasantly into the afternoon without anyone minding.

For those exploring the southern coast of Lesvos, Seven Seas Taverna makes an ideal stop to rest, refuel, and soak in the unhurried rhythm of island life. Plomari's waterfront is one of the more authentically Greek corners of Lesvos, less polished than the resort towns to the north, and a meal here feels like a genuine encounter with the island rather than a performance of it. Whether you arrive sun-drenched from a nearby beach or simply following your appetite, the taverna delivers the honest pleasures that draw travelers to the Greek islands in the first place.

Before you go

What to expect

Tables face the Aegean waterfront and the smell of charcoal-grilled fish arrives before the mezedes do. This is the kind of place where a glass of Plomari ouzo turns into two and nobody counts the hours. The crowd is a comfortable mix of village regulars and visitors who made the drive south specifically for a proper seaside lunch.

Best time to visit

May through October is ideal; August fills the waterfront tables quickly, but the evening sea breeze keeps things pleasant.

How to get there

From Mytilene, take the main road south toward Plomari — the drive is roughly 35 to 45 minutes depending on the route. Once in town, the waterfront is easy to find and well worth a short walk along it.

Welcoming staff, made to feel very welcome as tourists, so friendly and charming. The food was simple but absolutely DELICIOUS, every mouthful, truly tasty. We had fried Zucchini, stuffed mushrooms with a side of tzatziki to start. Then, grilled prawns (I think they are some of the most well seasoned prawns I’ve ever had), side of fries and a schnitzel with pepper sauce with a side of fried anchovies (must try)!!

Great location, very diverse menu to choose from. Service was great even though it was crowded . The grilled shrimps were fresh and tasty. The zucchini flowers were a generous portion and delicious. The fish is super fresh and the octopus in wine is tender and the sauce is wonderful. Highly recommend it!

We came to Seven Seas Taverna four times during our stay in Plomari — and for good reason! Despite its slightly touristic appearance, this is a true local family-run gem. The food is incredibly traditional, fresh, and full of flavour. You can really taste the quality and care in every dish. The moussaka is hands down the best I’ve ever had (and I’ve tried a lot over the years!). Add to that the lovely view over the harbour and a gentle sea breeze, and it’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy authentic Greek cuisine. The family running the taverna is also very warm and welcoming, which made every visit feel like coming home. Highly recommended! Special thanks to Thomas for recommending this spot 👌🏻

Perfect place for seafoods. We have been there on 07.07.25 and it was amazing. We ordered octopus and shrimp as advertiser and it was delicious and we had calamari as main dish and it was amazing. Personal is very kind. It’s best place if you want to try seafoods in Lesbos.

I think it was one of the best services on island. Really nice and competent waiters. Food was really nice seasoned and served. Best octopus from grill (and gr8 that waiter told me how to eat it properly ;) ) Thank you for experience! People writing that octopus is hard DOESN'T LISTEN what waiter are saying to you. ;)

We had a wonderful dinner in Seven Seas. You must have a reservation in advance for the dinner time, since there is a high demand and limited seating. Everything we order was very delicious and served in big portions. There was a good balance between the pricing and portions. We had calamari, tzatziki, aubergine salad, fried zucchini flowers and very tasty mixed salad. The sea view was also beautiful. Service was a little slow, but other than that it was fine. It was a pleasant dinner for us. Thank you…
