About
Tucked near the quiet village of Alyfada in the inland reaches of Lesvos, Kariofylli Rania carries a name that hints at its character: kariofylli, the Greek word for carnation and clove, evokes the fragrant, handcrafted quality that defines this kind of intimate, owner-run establishment. Run by Rania, the business has the feel of a place shaped by one person's passion and pride, where visitors are welcomed as guests rather than customers. The surrounding countryside, with its olive groves and traditional stone villages, sets the tone for an experience rooted in authentic Lesbian hospitality.
Whether you stop in for a coffee, a homemade bite, or to browse locally made goods, you are likely to find the kind of unhurried warmth that is increasingly rare in tourist-heavy destinations. Alyfada sits away from the busier coastal routes, making Kariofylli Rania a rewarding find for those who venture off the main roads to discover the quieter, more personal side of the island. It is the sort of place where a short stop can easily become an hour-long conversation, a taste of something made with care, and a memory that stays with you longer than any landmark.
For travelers seeking the real texture of life on Lesvos beyond the postcard views, places like this are the heart of the island. Kariofylli Rania represents the tradition of the small, family-run business that sustains village communities and offers visitors a genuine connection to local life, flavor, and friendship.
Before you go
What to expect
The name Kariofylli — Greek for carnation and clove — gives you an early clue: this is a place of small, considered pleasures, shaped entirely by Rania's own taste and care. Expect handcrafted goods, homemade bites, and a coffee drunk without any hurry, in a space that feels like someone's passion project rather than a generic café. Conversation tends to linger here.
Best time to visit
Being inside Mytilene means it can be visited year-round, though spring and autumn bring a quieter rhythm to the town and a more relaxed stop.
How to get there
Kariofylli Rania sits within Mytilene itself, less than a kilometre from the town centre — an easy walk from the harbour or a very short taxi ride from anywhere in the city.

The place is amazing! The owners have their own animals but also rescue and help animals in need (like the donkey in the picture). It's clear, that the owners love the place, it's clean and the animals are calm and healthy. The food is really tasty and most of the products come from local items. It's prefect! ❤️🐐🐔🌱 (If going with family, respect the environment and the animals and don't let kids torture them)

A wonderful, charming place on this island. Delicious local desserts, tasty coffee (thank you for making a flat white especially for me). And this view from the cafe - something beautiful! Visiting Kariophyllis Farm in Lesvos was an unforgettable experience! 🌿🐑 The animals live free and happy, and you can walk among them, pet them, and truly connect with nature. On top of that, the farm has a wonderful café with breathtaking views, where everything is made with local products of amazing quality. The whole place is beautifully maintained, welcoming, and full of positive energy. Highly recommended – a must-see in Lesvos!

Nice place for delicious coffee, juices and cakes. You have a nice view of the ocean as well which you can enjoy as a family. Afterwards, you can go downstairs to the farm to visit the farm animals up close. Very tranquil place.

A little gem in the heart of Lesvos island at Lepetimnos village!!! The whole idea is unique for the island and for Greece in general. Giorgos is doing an excellent job raising and taking care so many different kinds of animals. He is even rescuing abused animals. It's a unique experience that everyone small or older will enjoy! You come know contact with the nature, it's very educated for the children! The guest star of the farma, of course , is Menios the deer!! Totally recommend it to visit!!

A cute little farm with free animals, lovely gathering of interesting birds, friendly goats and a small café with good coffee, local homemade snacks, balcony and wonderful view. A cool visit for warm summer days! The people who own the place and the employees are friendly and ready to navigate visitors to the place, and the idea behind it.

Wonderful place to stop while exploring Lesvos. This was my first trip to Lesvos, and this farm was by far one of my favorite experiences! The view from the cafe was fantastic and the owner was so kind and informative. The food was fresh and delicious. We had our pick of fresh eggs and tried the peacock eggs. I also really enjoyed the aronia jam and took some home. Great spot for unique souvenirs! The animal experience was also incredible. There were so many different, very friendly animals to see and pet. We loved the deer! We almost didn’t stop here, and now it is on our must-stop list.
