Fantastic spot near Molyvos with a stunning view—perfect for a sunset dinner. Lamb chops, Greek salad, and tzatziki were delicious and reasonably priced. Attentive staff. Highly recommended!

About

Tucked in the verdant hills of northern Lesvos near the quiet village of Lafionas, O Gavrilos is one of those unhurried, locally beloved establishments that defines the authentic rhythm of island life. Named in the time-honoured Greek tradition after its proprietor, it carries the warmth and familiarity of a place where the owner knows the regulars by name and strangers quickly become friends. The northern Lesvos countryside here is lush and largely untouched by mass tourism, making a stop at O Gavrilos feel like a genuine discovery rather than a scheduled attraction.

Visitors who find their way here can expect the honest pleasures of a traditional Greek establishment: good food made with local ingredients, cold drinks served without hurry, and conversation that flows as easily as the olive oil drizzled over the mezedes. The area around Lafionas is known for its olive groves and the slow, pastoral pace that has long characterized this corner of the island, and O Gavrilos reflects that character entirely. Whether you stop in after exploring the nearby countryside or the dramatic northern coastline, it offers a welcome respite and a taste of Lesvos as the islanders themselves experience it.

What makes O Gavrilos worth seeking out is precisely what cannot be replicated in busier resort towns: a sense of place, of genuineness, of hospitality that is offered not as a service but as a habit. In a region where tourism has not yet smoothed away the edges of everyday life, establishments like this one serve as a window into the real Lesvos. Come without a fixed agenda, sit a while longer than you planned, and leave with the particular contentment that only a truly local experience can provide.

Before you go

What to expect

Tables here fill with locals as much as visitors — a reliable sign in any village. Order a spread of mezedes, nurse a cold beer or a glass of ouzo, and settle into the unhurried pace that northern Lesvos sets naturally. The surrounding olive groves and the quiet of Lafionas have a way of stretching a short stop into something much longer.

Best time to visit

Late spring and early autumn offer the most comfortable weather; the north stays noticeably calmer than the resort coasts even in July and August.

How to get there

From Mytilene, head northwest toward Kalloni and then continue in the direction of Sigri — Lafionas sits in the hills above the northern coast, roughly an hour's drive. The roads are winding but the scenery makes the detour worthwhile.

A great place with a beautiful view. The sunset is amazing. This resturant mainly serves meat dishes along with some traditional Greek food. Reservation is advised. The restaurant is in the hills, so it can be a litle windy and chilly, even in summer.

It's a very nice, quiet place. They were very attentive and even though we didn't have a reservation, they arranged a table for us. The lamb was so delicious that I wish I had a bigger stomach :) The local grapes they recommended were also delicious. It was a pleasant evening.

Go just before sunset and have both a food and visual excellent experience. Everything here is good but they specialise in lamb and sheep meat. Food can take a little while until it is on you table but that’s just because the food is prepared with dedication. Their grill master really knows what s/he does. Usually, I don’t think French fries are good in Greece (too soft and oily), but here they’ve leaned! In sum, this place is a must if you’re in the area.

The place is special because it has a very beautiful view. The food is very good, traditionally cooked. The hosts strive to provide services to the customers' satisfaction. It is recommended to come here in the evening for the sunset and to make a reservation in advance.

Fried cheese delightful, salad well balanced with different ingredients. Steak and lamb plentiful and cooked to perfection. Owners wine recommendation was outstanding. Well worth the drive to enjoy the view and excellent cuisine. 👌

First of all, have to say that you are eating in a very beautiful view. The meat is very good, their own wine is very good and we were very satisfied with the other food. The ambiance is also very nice.

The place has a bohemian yet traditional atmosphere, and the view is absolutely stunning. Their lamb is already famous and definitely a must-try – it was truly delicious. All the mezes were excellent, and the “dolma” were outstanding. The service and attention were spot on. This was the place we were most satisfied with in Mytilene, and we’re planning to visit again before our trip ends. Big portions, good service and delicious!🙌🏽

Tried this restaurant . The view is great. In the peak season you need reservation no matter of the day. Many people come here for the view. The service is great, the waiters are careful with your needs. I feel that the food could be better, given the fact that they have like 15 meals in the menu. We had the pork neck steak, i felt that it was a bit dry. The potatoes are good. Overall the location is worth it.
