About
Alkaios Rooms offers a welcoming base for travellers exploring the vibrant capital of Lesvos. Named in the spirit of Alkaios, the ancient lyric poet born in Mytilini over two and a half millennia ago, the guesthouse carries a quiet nod to the island's extraordinary literary heritage. Staying here places guests at the heart of Mytilini town, where the bustling waterfront promenade, traditional kafeneions, and the covered market are all within easy reach on foot.
The rooms provide comfortable, unpretentious accommodation suited to independent travellers who want to immerse themselves in daily island life rather than retreat to a resort. Mytilini itself rewards those who linger — the impressive Genoese-Byzantine castle overlooking the harbour, the fine collection of antiquities at the Archaeological Museum, and the ouzo distilleries for which Lesvos is justly famous are all close by. The town also serves as the practical hub for ferry connections and day trips to the rest of the island.
For visitors who prefer character over chain hotels, Alkaios Rooms offers a straightforward and affordable way to settle into Mytilini's rhythm. The surrounding neighbourhood reveals the layered character of this port town — Ottoman-era mansions beside neoclassical townhouses, fishing boats at the quay, and the scent of fresh-grilled fish drifting up from the seafront tavernas each evening.
Before you go
What to expect
Mornings here start with the sounds of the port coming to life — fishing boats, the ferry terminal a short walk away, and the smell of fresh bread drifting up from nearby bakeries. Drop your bag and you are immediately part of a working Greek port town rather than watching it from a distance. The surrounding streets reward slow walking: neoclassical facades lean against older stone walls, and the kafeneions fill early with locals reading newspapers over thick coffee.
Best time to visit
Mytilini is a year-round town; spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) bring mild weather and a quieter pace, while summer evenings on the waterfront are lively and warm.
How to get there
Alkaios Rooms sits in the heart of Mytilini itself — guests arriving by ferry from Piraeus or Athens can walk from the port in under ten minutes, and the airport is a short taxi ride away.

I stayed at Alkaidos Rooms for 10 nights, and they were incredibly helpful. The breakfast was nice, and the beautiful garden with the orange trees smelled amazing. The room was very clean and warm during my stay in March. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the city, with everything just a minute's walk away and lovely shops nearby. Despite being centrally located, it's a quiet and charming area. The owner, Theodoros, was exceptionally helpful and kind. It's situated in a beautiful old Greek mansion, and my family has enjoyed staying at this hotel throughout the years. We all plan to come again. I will definitely recommend this place and look forward to returning.

Cozy rooms, the family who runs the place made us instantly feel very welcome and at home. They also provided us with a lot of information and places to visit in this beautiful island. The building itself is also full of character! Added bonus if you visit during spring, as the garden smells amazing from the blossoming trees and flowers! Will definitely visit again!

We stayed there for 2 nights with my husband. The only good thing is location. The Hotel is very close to city centre. The street where the hotel is located is very narrow. So finding a car park is difficult. We stayed first floor. Hotel is wooden building that’s why there is no sound insulation. I woke up every morning at 5:30 am because of the people of the upstairs. No hot water in the bathroom. No shampoo or conditioner etc. Since the shower curtain is made of vinyl, all the water from the shower leaked outside. Everyday same breakfast serviced and inadequate. Garden is nice. Receptionist woman can speak just a little bit Turkish as well. Wi-Fi was ok.

Alkaios rooms are accessible on foot from the port; you could walk everywhere. By the garden are few tables for having a breakfeast and/or sipping a coffee. The breakfast is not really rich but there is a close bakery for enriching your breakfast. The owner is really helpful. The only negative point is that the bathroom was outdated; not really comfortable.

My family has stayed in a room that is offered by this establishment. Hygiene (unclean toilet, dirty bath) and poor room condition (mold on walls, furniture in bad condition and broken showerhead) were least of their problems compared to the woman (employee or employer of the hotel, who knows) who choose to (literally) yell at them early in the morning in response to their complaints. They faced an uncivilized and primitive approach by that woman just because they verbally addressed their complaints to the reception desk. Yelling and physically walking up to a customer just for addressing a complaint is unacceptable.

Picturesque small hotel in the heart of Mitilini town. Offers breakfast and a good size rooms. Needs to provide better quality cleaning. The room was unfortunately very dusty! However, everyday change of towels and rubbish and every 3 days cleaning service which needs to be updated. Staff was polite and helpful. Allowed me to stay after check out hours as I was travelling late. Will definetly go back!

What a charming little Hotel in the Center of Mytilini. You can feel and see that everything is done well and with great passion.!The crew is super friendly and very helpful during the time I stayed there. The offer a good breakfast as well where you might find all you like to have in the morning. In the room even if they are tiny you find sockets almost everywhere and the closet has enough hangers for your cloth. You have hot water heater together with a section of tea and instant coffee. Even a little refrigerator and a hairdryer is placed in the room with great care. Don’t go you might feel comfortable and like to stay forever.
