About
The KTEL Lesvos Bus Station serves as the island's main public transport hub, connecting Mytilene with villages, beaches, and towns spread across Lesvos's diverse landscape. KTEL — the acronym for the Greek intercity coach network — operates routes that reach far-flung corners of the island, from the olive-grove valleys of the south to the petrified forest near Sigri and the traditional villages of the north. For budget-conscious travellers and those who prefer to experience Lesvos the way locals do, the bus station is the natural starting point for exploring beyond the capital.
The station itself is a functional, no-frills transit point where the rhythms of island life play out in full: farmers heading to market, students returning home for the weekend, and curious visitors piecing together their island itineraries. Timetables are posted at the ticket windows, and staff can generally assist with route information. Services are most frequent during summer months, when demand from tourists and seasonal workers swells considerably, though year-round routes ensure that even remote communities remain connected to Mytilene.
For visitors, the bus station offers an affordable and authentic alternative to car hire. Catching an early morning coach to Molyvos, Petra, or Plomari puts you in the company of locals and gives a genuine feel for the island's human geography — the olive groves rolling past the window, the villages perched on hillsides, the sea appearing and disappearing around each bend. Keep a printed timetable handy, as return services from smaller villages can be limited, and arriving early ensures a seat on the most popular summer routes.
Before you go
What to expect
The station buzzes with the practical energy of an island going about its day — coaches lined up along the forecourt, passengers juggling market bags and weekend luggage, departure boards at the ticket windows pointing toward the north coast, the south, and everywhere between. It is a good place to overhear Greek, get a feel for the island's scale, and decide which corner to explore first.
Best time to visit
Summer brings the fullest timetable and most frequent departures, but July and August routes fill quickly — arrive early for popular destinations like Molyvos or Petra.
How to get there
The station sits within easy walking distance of Mytilini's port and central waterfront, roughly ten to fifteen minutes on foot from the ferry quay.

I’m not usually someone who leaves reviews for a bus company’s branch, but I can’t stand it anymore, and since we were verbally assaulted, I want to write this to ensure this service is reviewed. I will also be filing a complaint. We had the worst experience with the service. The rudest, angriest driver ever. From the moment he stopped at the bus stop to pick up passengers, he started screaming at literally EVERYONE, one by one, without stopping. When it was our turn, I mentioned that I wanted to pay by card, and the driver had a meltdown, yelling “cash only” and practically threw us off the bus. I’ve never encountered anything like this before—if the card isn’t accepted, just say so; it’s that simple. How could something like this cause a person to have a meltdown and lose control? His shouting and insults, his endless rage, and verbal attacks on every single passenger did not stop. Why should we have to endure such abuse just because we want to travel? Why do we have to be verbally assaulted by an angry man who clearly hates his job? KTEL should really train their drivers. What kind of disrespectful service is this?

I mean it works, but it is a very small and messy bus station without any displays or any information. Very dirty also

I am happy there are some busses on the island, but the service needs to be improved. Sometimes there is just one per day in high season and they don't always have airconditioning. Also I was concerned with the safety, because our driver was playing candy crush while driving....

You should be very careful. For some destinations you have to change buses, but they don't tell you when you buy the tickets.

Very rude customer service. Would rather take a taxi than put up with his rudeness.

Never on time. Always leaves behind people in the bus stops when there is room. Skips scheduled routes VERY frequently. The drivers are rude and don't take their job seriously.
