About

Tucked near the quiet village of Alyfada on the northern coast of Lesvos, Samiotis Tours is a locally run travel and tours operation offering visitors a personal gateway into the island's lesser-explored landscapes and experiences. Run by Ioannis Samiotis, the business reflects the kind of intimate, family-rooted hospitality that defines travel in the Aegean — where the person arranging your excursion is also your guide, your local contact, and often your most valuable source of insider knowledge about the region.

For visitors based in the villages and coastal hamlets of northern Lesvos, having a trusted local operator nearby makes all the difference. Whether you are looking to arrange transportation, organize a day trip to the olive groves and petrified forest of the island's interior, or simply navigate the logistics of getting around an island where public connections can be limited, Samiotis Tours offers the kind of flexible, on-the-ground support that larger agencies rarely provide. The proximity to Alyfada, a peaceful settlement well away from the tourist crowds of Molyvos or Skala Eresou, gives the business a grounded, unhurried character that suits the pace of the surrounding landscape perfectly.

Visitors who seek out local operators like this one often find that the experience goes well beyond simple logistics. The deep familiarity with Lesvos that comes from a lifetime spent on the island means recommendations are genuine, routes are chosen with care, and the places you end up discovering are often the ones that do not appear in any guidebook. Stopping here is less a transaction and more an introduction to Lesvos as the locals know it.

Before you go

What to expect

Meeting Ioannis Samiotis is like getting a personal introduction to Lesvos from someone who has spent a lifetime here. He arranges excursions with a care you won't find at a package-tour desk — routes are chosen with genuine local knowledge, and the places he suggests tend to be the ones that never appear in guidebooks. Expect a real conversation as much as a booking.

Best time to visit

Spring and early autumn are ideal — mild temperatures, quieter roads, and a relaxed pace that suits personalised touring.

How to get there

The office is just a short walk from the centre of Mytilini, making it easy to stop in before heading out to explore the island.

I participated in an "organized" excursion to Cappadocia. Where can I get it? 1. Cost -it said- 720€. Wrong. It was 720€ + 200 Turkish Liras. How much is that? Less than 5€. But if you don't have it on the return trip, you can't get on the boat (okay, you're fine with 5€). Apart from the fact that it should be included in the ticket in my opinion, since it's not included, it should be clearly stated, no matter how small the amount. (The text said INCLUDED: v. Ferry tickets Mytilene – Ayvalik round trip) 2. " NOT INCLUDED: - Tickets to archaeological sites, museums, etc." What archaeological sites etc. are included? Since the entrance fee is not included, it is obviously optional. What happens to those who do not participate? Personal experiences: The first time (I had visited the site before and did not want to go back) we stayed in the village, sat in a shop and while they were supposed to come to pick us up in an hour, they came in two because there was a queue at the entrance. And all this extra hour we waited standing, they will come now, they will come later. I should note that everywhere the entrance fees were paid individually by each of us separately and the tickets were not purchased collectively so that there is a saving of time. The other time (when the access was with many steps and I did not have the physical ability to follow) we waited either inside the bus or in the parking lot without there being anything to sit down (fortunately there was access to toilets). There were other times, not so far-fetched. And of course it was not known in advance what the maximum cost of these optional participations is, with the result that personally (as I do not carry cash with me - much more so on a trip abroad) I went over budget. 3. "- The leader has the right to change the order of the excursion for reasons of force majeure without omitting anything from what is written in the program." Difficult to claim that nothing is omitted when it is not clear what you are going to see. For example, when I read "After breakfast, we will depart for Eskisehir which means “Old City”. etc." I understand how I will see Eskisehir. The program? The leader? The tour guide? How we will get through the city. And when it was said somewhere that there would be a change and some people protested, the change was not made but for revenge (I can't find any other reason) the next day we left the hotel at 8 and found ourselves outside the shopping center half an hour before it opened! I could go on, but I think that's enough.

The worst thing about service is the girls in the call center, unfortunately they are extremely rude.

We had booked a ticket to Piraeus and the time and the ship changed and they didn't inform us either by phone or by message. And the worst thing is that if we hadn't found out about it, which we found out by accident, we would have missed the ship because they changed the time from 19:00 that our ticket said to be 18:00.

Office with rude staff. Organized with an 80s mentality and it is very likely that the majority of employees are about to slowly retire.? Like the owner, Friendly advice to the office, get young people to work, the office will have more people. It is a shame for young people to remain unemployed and for your elderly staff to suffer. Because because of age, your staff makes tragic mistakes.

Not even half a star!! I have no words!!! Today we were traveling with a promotional ticket that was booked on the wrong date It was our mistake that we did not check it but a bigger mistake was the rude behavior of the employees who in order to travel, since as they told us it was a promotional ticket and it did not change, we were forced at the last minute to pay normally, in addition of course to what we had paid so that the employees would not pay it and well as they told us boldly. I should note that the departure date was 30/11 And the employee had typed 30/1 The conclusions are yours… It is worth noting not even an apology even though we gave the money so that they would not pay it from their pocket as they told us, they simply did not ask themselves whether we had to pay or not.
