Stopped for lunch. Had octopus and stuffed zucchini. They were very good. The view is priceless. Service was fast.
Me and my family were there as a big group, and all staff were so patient and caring, and so kind. We tried and loved many dishes, just sit and make an order anything you wish. You will like it
About
Tucked into the quiet village of Alyfada on the eastern slopes of Lesvos, Taverna O Dimos embodies the kind of unhurried, honest Greek hospitality that draws visitors back to the island year after year. Like many family-run tavernas bearing a personal name, O Dimos carries the warmth of a place rooted in its community — somewhere locals have been gathering for simple, well-cooked meals long before the tourists arrived.
Expect the essentials done right: grilled meats, fresh salads dressed with local olive oil, and the kind of mezedes that arrive without much fanfare but disappear quickly. The surrounding landscape of Alyfada — rolling hills, scattered olive groves, and the unhurried pace of a small Lesbian village — provides a natural backdrop for a long, leisurely lunch. The taverna offers a welcome pause from the coastal crowds, sitting in the quieter interior of the island where the rhythms of daily life feel genuinely unchanged.
For visitors exploring the villages and countryside of central Lesvos, O Dimos represents exactly the kind of stop that makes a journey memorable — not for spectacle, but for a cold carafe of ouzo, a plate of whatever is fresh that day, and a chance to sit among the locals and feel, if only for an hour, like a part of village life on this remarkable island.
Before you go
What to expect
Sit down at one of the simple tables and the pace shifts immediately — a cold carafe of ouzo arrives, mezedes follow without ceremony, and grilled meats come out smelling of charcoal. The olive groves surrounding Alyfada and the quiet of the village make it feel removed from the coastal bustle, even though the sea is not far. This is the kind of place where a quick lunch quietly becomes two hours.
Best time to visit
Late spring through early autumn is ideal; long summer evenings suit a slow, unhurried meal particularly well.
How to get there
O Dimos sits in the Alyfada area on the eastern edge of Mytilene — just a short drive or even a walk from the town centre.

calamari, cuttlefish, anchovies, fried zucchini flowers and crab salad were very nice. Fast service. The place was cool in the hot weather. We had our meal here before the ferry and had a great closing

We waited for 40 minutes. After 30 minutes they came and said that there was no left. They always brought the orders we wanted late and made us wait and gave the same orders to the tables that came after us. After seeing that we speak Turkish, I think they did this. It's really bad, after such good-intentioned friendly tradesmen, this is a complete disappointment, don't go!!!

You came at 4:30 a.m. on a day of celebration like this with so much work. Despite this, we welcomed you, made your table quickly and took your order. So because you told us you were in a hurry, we took dishes from other tables such as the burger and gave it to you to serve you as quickly as possible. Because 2 servings of french fries went first to another table and not to you, you called us out for not being professionals. Your nationality has nothing to do with my behavior, but your rudeness does.<br>We have Turkish friends and customers and they have never said anything like that about us. Your rudeness may be due to your haste to catch the ship, but the next time you will have to catch the ship it would be a better idea to go and have lunch earlier!

After visiting many restaurants on the island, I believe it's one of my favourite places in Mytilene. Parking on the street along the restaurants. The kitchen is on the other side of the road, therefore staff needs to cross the street a lot. Very friendly and efficient service. We've been served as we arrived with water and bread. Quickly after the order was taken. Food came after 10-15 minutes. All the plates worthy. Planty and super tasty. I can recommend this place with all my heart 💖 What we've ordered: We had zucchini flowers fried 😋 My number one was stuffer wine leaves with rice 😋😋 Also other dishes: Greek salad, wild leaves, Mitillini cheese - we asked to be grilled and it was the best way to eat that cheese.
