About
Balouchanas is a fish restaurant situated in Perama, a quiet coastal village perched along the southern shore of the Gulf of Kalloni. The gulf itself is one of the most productive fishing grounds in the Aegean, renowned above all for its celebrated Kalloni sardines, a product so prized they carry a protected designation of origin. A taverna in this setting draws its identity directly from the sea, offering the kind of simply prepared, impossibly fresh seafood that defines the best of Greek coastal cooking.
Guests can expect a menu rooted in the day's catch, with grilled fish, fried calamari, and local seafood meze alongside the essential Kalloni sardines, best enjoyed lightly salted or grilled over charcoal in the traditional style. The unhurried pace of Perama, combined with the calm waters of the gulf visible from the village, makes a meal here feel like a genuine pause from the road rather than just another stop. For visitors exploring the Kalloni basin or passing through on the way to the island's interior, Balouchanas offers a taste of Lesvian coastal life at its most authentic.
Before you go
What to expect
Tables at Balouchanas look out toward the calm waters of the Gulf of Kalloni, where the boats supplying the kitchen head out each morning. The menu follows the catch — grilled or simply fried fish, calamari, and the gulf's celebrated sardines salted or charcoal-grilled in the old way. Perama's unhurried village pace makes this feel less like a meal stop and more like a proper sit-down by the sea.
Best time to visit
Late April through September is the sweet spot; midsummer is warm but the gulf stays breezy.
How to get there
Perama is about 15 minutes by car from Mytilene, following the coastal road west along the Gulf of Kalloni. It sits naturally on the route if you're heading toward Kalloni town or cutting across to the island's interior.

It's cozy here, with a beautiful view of the Bay of Gera. The food is good, but sometimes the food wasn't really warm (this could also be because it was very busy due to a public holiday, hence the 4 stars). If you're in the area, you'll definitely eat there at least once, even if you drive there specifically to eat there (which we did this time, but I wouldn't do it again).

Everything we ate was below average. Calamari was burnt and pricier at the bill than their menu. Even Greek Salad was tasteless, not recommended!

Very friendly family run fish taverna that offers delicious food! Everything we had was excellent, the highlights were the fava with sweet caramelized onion, the very tender fried sepia and the tiganitelia (a bit similar to zucchini balls but also containing zucchini flowers). Also beautiful location and very appealing interior design with lots of driftwood and plants. Very fair prices! Definitely recommended if you happen to visit Perama.

This is an inexpensive tavern in the village of Perama in Lesvos. The food is mostly from the sea, but there are some interesting meat dishes like meatballs. The cuisine is local with fresh ingredients. The location is fantastic, right by the sea On the minus side: today, there was a group of tourists, place was packed and service was extremely slow. Clearly, it's understaffed. We had to wait for our lunch for 45 minutes. Maybe it was a coincidence and it happened only once, but it costs the place one star..

Nice little place at the harbour with full panoramic view of the bay. Good prices and more than enough to choose from. They offer lots of fish but also meat. The baclava was especially tasteful.
